"Additional production of Catalinas began in Canada in 1941 at the
Canadian Vickers Ltd. plant in Cartierville and at the Boeing Aircraft
of Canada factory in Vancouver. The Canadian Vickers Ltd. aircraft were
designated PBV-1A by the Navy, but all 230 built (67832-68061) in fact
went to the USAAF as OA-10A amphibians; another 149 built by Canadian
Vickers went to the RCAF under the service name Canso, the first of
which flew on May 12, 1943." The subject aircraft was probably part of
the group of 149 and if so is a Canso and not a PBV-1A.
Warbirds Directory #2 identifies this as a PBV-1A, and shows that it
was operated by Flying Fireman Ltd. of Sydney, BC from 1970 to 14May1984
when it crashed at Thunder Bay, ONT.
